When you experience anxiety in your daily life, often you forget the fact that your mind becomes anxious thinking about the past and worrying about the future.

Therefore, calming down your anxious thoughts is of utmost importance to reduce your mind’s restlessness. Thus, when you are feeling anxious, living in the moment helps you calm your racing thoughts.

For this purpose, if you can practice some simple mindfulness practices when you are feeling anxious, it will calm your mind and ease anxiety.

Here I have brought five easy-to-do mindful activities that will help you cope with your anxious thoughts. Let's explore.

Journal Your Thoughts:

Journaling is the first thing I do when I experience anxiety. Sitting in your journal and writing down your thoughts help you channel them in an organized manner.

Anxiety fuels a sense of uncertainty, fear, and insecurity in your mind. Therefore, if you can write down the factors that are making your mind restless, you will certainly reach the solution to make things easier.

In addition, you can ask yourself the reasons behind your fears and why the thoughts are bothering you so much that they are making you feel anxious.

Journaling will help you identify the reasons behind your anxiety and you can put them in a particular way to figure out the easiest solution. It will also help you to connect to yourself, living in the moment.

Go for a Walk:

Whenever I feel anxious, I go for a walk. This is the second thing I do to calm down my anxious mind.

Anxiety is a state of mind when you are unable to calm down your restless mind. It happens because you can't find your mental peace and continuously search for a stable solution for your worries.

However, at that moment of restlessness, if you can go out and walk in nature, it will heal your mind.

The green color of trees, the sweet smell of flowers, the healing sound of woods, and the vastness of the sky will remind you of what you have in your life. Thus, a sense of gratitude will blossom in your heart, and it will help you calm your mind.

How to Calm Down Your Anxious Thoughts by Living in the Moment

Bring Your Color Book:

Are you feeling anxious? If yes, it's time for some dose of sunshine with your creativity. Bring your color book, and start filling the blank spaces with colors.

Similarly, you can doodle with your own designs on blank paper and use vibrant colors to make them more attractive. The designs, the colors, and the doodling process will help you destress and focus on the present moment.

Thus, coloring and doodling help in calming down the restless mind.

Pause and Breathe:

If your mind is in an anxious state for a long time, it will need a break from its restlessness. The more you become anxious, the more you start panicking about every little thing in your daily life.

At times, being anxious for a long time could make you experience sudden outbursts of emotions that go beyond your control. Therefore, in your period of anxious thoughts, it is better to pause.

Give your mind a small break from the fear, uncertainty, and insecurity that were making you feel worried about the future. Instead, pause for a while and practice deep breathing.

It will help you feel relaxed and you will get a new perspective on finding a solution to the reason behind your anxious mind.

Do One Thing at a Time:

When you are anxious about future tasks and uncertain about their execution, pick them one by one. Check your to-do list, and pick the task having top priority.

Then, start doing the job with undivided attention without worrying about the next one in the queue.

Doing your to-do-list tasks one at a time helps your mind declutter the unnecessary burdens and you can easily avoid multitasking.

Thus, your anxious thoughts will slowly calm down when you see your pending tasks are finished and this sense of accomplishment will give you peace of mind.

Concluding Thoughts:

At times, you may feel anxious when you are simply watching a movie or reading a book. It happens because your mind dwells in a restless state for long days.

As a result, thoughts of fear or uncertainty pop up in your mind even when you are in comfort. At that time, all you need is to live in the present moment.

Therefore, if you can practice the above-mentioned mindful activities to curb those thoughts that fuel your anxiety, it will help your mind calm down.

Furthermore, you will connect to yourself more profoundly to know your goals and set intentions as practicing these activities gives you a clear vision of your purpose in life.

Hello everyone! Welcome to THE PEACE STORIES. Today we have Vibhu Vaibhav Gaur with us. Vibhu is an Engineer by profession, and by passion, he is a Traveller, Blogger, Poet, Cyclist, and Fitness Lover.

Today, he will share his inspirational journey with us. Come, let’s hear his peace story.

Travelling is therapeutic for me The Peace Story of Vibhu Vaibhav Gaur

Travelling is therapeutic for me: The Peace Story of Vibhu Vaibhav Gaur

LET’S KNOW THE STORY OF A FREE SOUL:

My name is Vibhu Vaibhav Gaur. I was born and brought up in Delhi. An engineer by profession, I deal with technology and management on the work front. Off work, I constantly keep exploring my creative boundaries. Be it cycling non-stop from Delhi to Chandigarh, blogging, pensive poetry, or playing club cricket, I am always more than engaged and cherish each moment.
Travelling, exploration, and fitness have always interested me and form the core of my life’s learnings and journey.

VIBHU’S TRANSFORMATION JOURNEY:

I have been a sportsperson since my formative years and was lucky enough to have a supportive father who not only encouraged me but was indulgent enough to inspire and motivate me. Additionally, my school played a pivotal role in forming healthy habits since childhood as it focused on a balanced growth and learning curve.
I played soccer at the zonal level for the state and represented the University team later on.

Life comes in a full circle at times and throws a punch here and there trying to throw us off balance. I got a taste of it too when I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at an early age as it runs in the family.

Unwavered by the setback I decided to fight back with self-restraint and consistency. Diet control and workout have been my two biggest weapons in the journey so far. And believe me, it gets addictive and enjoyable once the results start reflecting.

It’s been almost 10 years now and my resolve and engagement toward fitness have only grown. The key is to keep innovating and exploring. Kill the monotony by trying different things and schedules.

I started cycling on a serious note in 2017, began jumping rope as the pandemic gripped the entire world, rekindled my love of playing Cricket after the first lockdown, and always stay curious like a child. Everyone has their journey and areas of interest. Do whatever helps you stay fit and gives you enjoyment. The key is to get started.

Every drop of sweat, every inch reduced, every increment of data on my smartwatch, and every thumping heartbeat in my chest makes me feel alive, content, and motivated.

A NOTE ON PEACE:

Peace is multi-dimensional in my point of view. For some, it translates to meditation while for others it can be a good night’s sleep. Basically, it can neither be quantified nor exactly defined.

I am at peace when I am able to strike a balance between my responsibilities and desires. Travelling is therapeutic for me as it provides me time and opportunity to explore, analyze and expand my learning and creative boundaries.

A sense of order and purpose gives me peace. I derive it out of the simplest things like penning down my thoughts or an early morning bicycle ride. I feel peace is everywhere and anywhere where there is purpose and order in life.

THE JOURNEY OF SELF-DISCOVERY:

I have always enjoyed self-analysis. Even as a kid I was constantly trying to figure out what and how of every experience I used to go through in daily life. So consciously I won’t be able to tell when I started my self-discovery journey. But I believe I embarked on this journey quite early, maybe unknowingly, and it’s an ongoing process for sure.

IF YOU ARE TOLD TO WRITE A LETTER TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF, WHAT WOULD BE THAT ONE THING YOU WOULD LOVE TO TELL HIM MUST?

I don’t live with regrets as whatever decisions we take at any given point in time, they are the best as per our judgment and maturity at that stage. Having said that, I have had my journey and enjoyed it too. Therefore, I would tell my younger self how lucky and proud I am today for all the mistakes, learnings, fears, efforts, hard work and not giving up at the most crucial moments that made me who I am today, a survivalist.

THE STRANGER STORY:

While traveling from Gwalior to Delhi on a wintery night in 2007-2008, I was accompanied by a stranger in the train’s coach.  We sat opposite each other just acknowledging our presence through mere eye contact. I fell asleep after a while out of exhaustion and when I woke up the stranger had already left leaving a rolled-up note beside me.
The words were not just empowering but became an integral part of my personality. I still carry the note in my wallet hoping we might cross paths again somewhere.

The sketch and the stranger’s note Pic Courtesy: Vibhu Vaibhav Gaur

A MESSAGE THAT YOU WANT TO SHARE WITH THE WORLD:

Live while you can, there will be plenty of time to drag on.

VIBHU’S GRATITUDE NOTES:

I am grateful for the contentment and peace I have in life. My family is the core reason behind it. Every day that we breathe and our needs are taken care of, it’s worth being grateful for.

(We will add the gratitude notes to our Big Gratitude Jar, where we are collecting all the beautiful things we are grateful for in life.)

Thank you, Vibhu, for being with us and sharing your journey with The Peace Stories. We are honored to have you here. Wish you all the best for your journey ahead. May you be guided with peace and purpose.

(A techie by profession, Vibhu lives by his dreams. He is an avid traveler, an empowered blogger, a rebellious poet, an endurance cyclist, a fitness lover and most importantly a free soul.)

I Find Peace When I Pray

I find peace when I pray: The Peace Story of Cindy Ann D’Silva

Hello everyone! Welcome to The Peace Stories. Today we have Cindy Ann D’Silva with us. Cindy is a blogger, influencer, content writer and a belly dance instructor. Today, she will share her inspirational journey with us. Come, let’s hear her peace story.

TPS: Hello Cindy! Welcome to The Peace Stories. Please tell us something about you.
C: I’m Cindy D’Silva! I’m not sure which one I should call my hometown really. I was born and brought up in Kuwait and lived there for around 25 years. Till I met my husband, I would usually go to Bombay for holidays (my aunts, uncles and cousins live there).

I also lived in Bombay for 4 years when we were airlifted from Kuwait during the Gulf War in 1990. I went back to Kuwait in 1994. I got married in Kuwait and now I live in Bangalore because hubby wanted to leave the Gulf and start doing something in India. My dad is from Goa and my mom is from Mangalore.
In Kuwait I was an independent woman who lived with her mom and brother. I had a full-time job in the Customer Service field in a logistics company. After hubby and I came to India in 2011, I’ve become a mother of two kids, an influencer on Instagram, a blogger who writes for various websites including my own and a certified belly dancer. I love doing what I do now. It’s been a decade.
For fun, I love bowling, gardening, reading, collecting stamps and playing board games.

TPS: How you came to the world of writing?
C: I always loved to write. I would buy books and write anything in them. I had a diary from the age of 7. My craze for writing was the only reason I also had a recipe book (not that I cooked many items I jotted into it). So, in 2015, a friend introduced me to the word ‘blog’ because I felt like writing about my pregnancy-weight loss journey.

I felt I had a purpose in life besides taking care of a house and a kid. I began writing for Momspresso (then known as MyCity4Kids) and then my husband helped me create my own website after being amazed with the views I got on my first article. Haven’t stopped writing since the birth of http://www.blogaberry.com. I also learnt a lot since then.

TPS: Would you like to share your healing story with us? That would be an honour for us. You can share how your soul heals and how you find peace.
C: Life has various twists and turns that you may or may not be ready for.

Even if you think you are ready, you are shocked and surprised at how people can treat you, outside the comfort of your mother’s home. But, I learnt to ignore, calm myself and pray.

– CINDY ANN D’SILVA

It was difficult at first as I felt like the vamp everywhere I went. Now, there are very few people whose actions can affect me emotionally. I believe that God helps those who are ready to help themselves.

TPS: What is peace for you? What gives you peace?
C: Peace is when I can be with myself, without having to yell at anyone at home.

I find peace when I pray.

To pray is to believe in a force that is unseen with our eyes. The comfort, of knowing that someone up there is looking down on you, is something I’m not able to explain. Sitting with myself, thinking of all the things I have done or have not done, is a time of peace for me.

It is the faith I have, that all the bad happenings will soon come to an end, due to which I’m able to stay calm despite the storm around me.

TPS: Cindy, how did you embark on the journey of self-discovery?
C: This is a nice question. I think staying positive in every situation is very important. As we cannot change what happens around us, we should look at the bright side and understand why things happen.

I discovered myself only after I became a mother. I understood my purpose only once I began writing. My words helped people smile, understand their own lives, adjust their lifestyles and cure whatever ailments they had for a long time. It’s lovely to hear such feedback.

I believe that when you are positive and are able to accept the things that happen around you, only then can you help others do the same.

TPS: One beautiful realization about writing/storytelling that you want to share with us.
C: Be yourself and be positive!

TPS: If you are told to write a letter to your younger self, what would be that one thing you would love to tell her must?
C: Stay focused. Happiness lies within!

TPS: A stranger whom you can’t forget and the lesson you have learned. (Mention if you came across anyone)
C: If I ever learnt something from someone, I never leave them to be a stranger. I’m the ‘keeping in touch’ kind whether they like it or not!

TPS: A message that you want to share with the world.
C: Discipline your kids rather than feeding them every hour. Spend time with your kids rather than the house so that we can bring up a better individuals for future generations.

TPS: Cindy, please tell us about your favorite books and movies.
C: Mysteries, Thrillers, Romance and Comedy are the genres I read and watch. Though I love reading fiction, I do read autobiographies of famous people I know.

TPS: If you are given a choice to do something that will make you happy from within, what will you do?
C: I’ll go and get some sleep.

TPS: Is there any beautiful thing that you have discovered along the walk of life and you would like to share with us?
C: Life is beautiful. You just need to look at it the right way!

TPS: Cindy, is there any quote that you live by.
C: Be yourself but be good.

Thank you, Cindy for being with us and sharing your journey with The Peace Stories. We are honored to have you here. Wish you all the best for your journey ahead. May you be guided with peace and purpose.

(Cindy Ann D’Silva is a blogger, influencer, content writer and a belly dance instructor. Prior to this, she had a full time job and sang with a band & choir in Kuwait, where she was born and bred. Currently, she resides in Bangalore with her husband and two kids.

She has authored two e-books, one fiction and one self-help. You can find more about her books and writings on her Lifestyle blog https://www.blogaberry.com/)

We Are Our Autobiographies in Motion The Peace Story of Mayuri

“We are our autobiographies in motion”: The Peace Story of Mayuri

Hello everyone! Welcome to The Peace Stories. Today we have Mayuri with us. Mayuri is a Tarot Card Reader by profession and a Writer by design. Since she is already aware of what the future holds, she enjoys unwrapping the present, and when she is not reading the Tarot Cards, she translates her thoughts into words. Today, she will share her inspirational journey with us. Come, let’s hear her peace story.

TPS: HI MAYURI! WELCOME TO THE PEACE STORIES. PLEASE TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOU.

M: Hi, I am Mayuri, a true-blue Bombay girl. Professionally I am fortunate to be doing what I love, twice over, as a Professional Tarot Card Reader and a Blogger/Influencer and Author. I love reading, writing, traveling, ice cream, new cuisines, and meeting new people.

TPS: GREAT! SO MAYURI, HOW DID YOU START TAROT CARD READING AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS AS YOUR PROFESSION? WHAT WAS YOUR CALLING AT THAT TIME?

M: Tarot Card Reading chose me, rather than the other way round. One day my younger brother came up to me, handed me a deck of Tarot Cards, and told me that he thought that, ‘Tarot was my calling’. At that time I didn’t even know what Tarot was! I kept the Cards aside and forgot all about them. However, one thing led to another and while holidaying in London I accompanied a friend for a Tarot Card Reading and was so fascinated by it that I stayed back to learn it! I have been a professional Tarot Card Reader since February 2004.

TPS: WOW! THAT’S AN INTERESTING STORY. I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED THIS IN MY LIFE. SOMETIMES, THE PATH CHOOSES US RATHER THAN WE CHOOSE THE PATH. MAYURI, YOU ARE A BRILLIANT WRITER. SO, HOW DID YOU COME TO THE WORLD OF WRITING?

M: Right from the time I wrote my 1st essay in school, ‘The Cow’, I knew I enjoyed writing. I was a very shy child and found out that I expressed myself better through writing. Though I am no longer shy, I still think I express myself better when I write.

TPS: SO YOU HAVE BEEN WRITING SINCE YOUR CHILDHOOD. THIS IS VERY NICE TO KNOW. MAYURI, WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON HEALING?

M: No one can hurt us as much as can hurt ourselves. There are many times in life when even though you give it your all things don’t work out. It is a setback yes. Healing occurs when you use that setback to step back. Pause, rest, don’t suppress what you feel. Only then can the feeling pass. Healing is all about recovering and moving on, and once you realize that you heal faster.

TPS: YES, THIS IS SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW. YOU HAVE SHARED SUCH A BEAUTIFUL MESSAGE ON HEALING. MAYURI, WE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW, WHAT IS PEACE FOR YOU? WHAT GIVES YOU PEACE?

M: Peace is when your actions match your words. When you acknowledge that with every stage of life you will change. When you accept the new you, without yearning for your old self, is when you will know peace.

TPS: WONDERFUL. IT’S VERY TRUE THAT WHEN YOU ACCEPT YOUR NEW VERSION WHOLEHEARTEDLY, THIS GIVES YOU PEACE. RIGHTLY SAID! MAYURI, HOW DID YOU EMBARK ON THE JOURNEY OF SELF-DISCOVERY?

M: I learned to become self-aware very late in my life. I was almost 30 years old when I did. I used to be a huge fan of Oprah Winfrey and watched her shows compulsively. Those shows were the trigger that lead to self-discovery.

TPS: UNDOUBTEDLY! HER WORDS ARE SOUL-AWAKENING. MAYURI, IS THERE ANY BEAUTIFUL REALIZATION ABOUT WRITING THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH US?

M: I realized that we learn so much about ourselves or the situations we are facing when we write. Also, every reader will interpret and understand your writing in their own way, depending on what they are going through or have gone through.

TPS: WOW, SUCH A NICE REALIZATION. MAYURI, WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU FEEL ANXIOUS? HOW DO YOU CALM DOWN YOURSELF WHEN YOU FEEL RESTLESS WITHIN?

M: When I feel anxious, I allow myself to feel anxious. I am not someone who believes that we have to ‘Be Positive’ all the time. Every feeling is natural and should be allowed to be felt. To calm me down sometimes a good cry helps, at other times a bar of chocolate or a cup of strong tea does.

Brisk walking while listening to music or ordering a pizza helps at other times. Also, Vanity is my Sanity, I want to avoid crows-feet, fine lines, and a sad face at all costs. As I’d rather spend the money I would spend on Botox to cover all these up later, to take a holiday and feel good now!

TPS: THAT’S AWESOME! MAYURI, IF YOU ARE TOLD TO WRITE A LETTER TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF, WHAT WOULD BE THAT ONE THING YOU WOULD LOVE TO TELL HER MUST?

M: I would tell her to be brave, and not be a people-pleaser.

TPS: WOW, THIS IS SUCH A NICE MESSAGE. MAYURI, YOU HAVE TRAVELED A LOT. SO, WE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW FROM YOU THAT IS THERE SOMEONE STRANGER WHOM YOU CAN’T FORGET AND THE LESSON YOU HAVE LEARNED?

M: Everyone we come across touches our lives in some way or the other. I can’t say that I have anyone specific but would like to thank everyone who crossed my life.

TPS: MAYURI, WE HAVE A SPECIAL QUESTION FOR YOU. “WHAT ARE YOU GRATEFUL FOR IN LIFE? OR, NAME THE PERSON OR THE PEOPLE YOU ARE GRATEFUL FOR IN LIFE.” WE WILL ADD YOUR GRATITUDE NOTES TO OUR BIG GRATITUDE JAR, WHERE WE ARE COLLECTING ALL THE BEAUTIFUL THINGS WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR IN LIFE.

M: I am grateful to the Universe. For listening to me, for introducing me to some wonderful people, for soothing my hurt, for making me keep up my hope and faith. For everything.

TPS: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE RESPONSE. MAYURI, IS THERE ANY MESSAGE THAT YOU WANT TO SHARE WITH THE WORLD?

M: We are our Autobiographies in motion and we are being read by people every day.

TPS: AWESOME. MAYURI, PLEASE TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR FAVORITE BOOKS AND MOVIES.

M: Books: The Kite Runner. The Namesake. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. You can heal your life. Mind over Medicine.Movies: The Godfather. The Shawshank Redemption. Satte pe Satta. All Hrishikesh Mukherjee films.

TPS: AWESOME. MAYURI, IF YOU ARE GIVEN A CHOICE TO DO SOMETHING THAT WILL MAKE YOU HAPPY FROM WITHIN, WHAT WILL YOU DO?

M: I already am, by living the life I want to.

TPS: THIS IS NICE TO KNOW. WE SHOULD ENJOY OUR WORKS WHATEVER WE DO. MAYURI, YOU WORK WITH TAROT CARDS, SO WE ARE CURIOUS TO KNOW SOMETHING FROM YOU. DO YOU BELIEVE IN THE UNIVERSE’S SIGNALS? DO YOU BELIEVE IN MAGIC AND MIRACLES?

M: You have to connect, believe and trust that the Universe has your back, and it will never let you down. I have experienced this. The Universe whispers to you, and when you don’t listen, it screams. So yes, signals, signs, miracles, I believe, follow, and have experienced them all.

TPS: THAT’S AMAZING TO KNOW. MAYURI, IS THERE ANY BEAUTIFUL THING THAT YOU HAVE DISCOVERED ALONG THE WALK OF LIFE AND YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH US?

M: If you think the taste of revenge is sweet, you haven’t tried the best flavor called forget-all-about-it-and-move-on.

TPS: THAT’S AWESOME. MAYURI, WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE A QUOTE YOU LIVE BY.

M: My life is an open book, but I choose which page I let you read.

TPS: THIS IS A WAY OF LIFE. SO MUCH TO LEARN FROM YOU, MAYURI. WOULD YOU LIKE TO TELL US ABOUT SOMETHING THAT YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR PERSONAL WINNING MOMENT OR YOUR ACHIEVEMENT IN LIFE?

M: I am very content right now. I like the person I have become and I am enjoying being myself. This is what I count as one of my personal achievements.

TPS: IT WAS SO NICE TO HAVE YOU WITH US, MAYURI. AS A PART OF THE INITIATIVE, WE WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST THE STORYTELLER TO SHARE ONE BEAUTIFUL THING WITH US SO THAT WE CAN CURATE THAT BEAUTIFUL THING AS A MEMOIR OF THE PEACE STORIES GALLERY. THIS IS A KEEPSAKE FOR OUR INITIATIVE. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE GALLERY? IT COULD BE ANYTHING THAT YOU LIKE. ANY ARTWORK, PHOTOGRAPH, POEM OR PROSE, A QUOTE BY YOU, ANY BEAUTIFUL THING.

M: Yes, of course! I would like to share a beautiful message with you all.

“We are taught to wish for happiness. To ask for ease and smooth roads. This is why we get shaken up by the slightest wrinkle life creases our smooth path with. Adversity is a great teacher. Instead of fearing it and cursing it, we must try and understand why this unwelcome guest makes an appearance in our life. What is it here to teach us? How do we keep its visit brief and show it the door at the earliest? If we look at the tough times in a new light, they could be a stepping stone to reach a higher plane.”

– MAYURI

TPS: THIS IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL MESSAGE TO THE WORLD. THANK YOU, MAYURI FOR BEING WITH US AND SHARING YOUR JOURNEY WITH THE PEACE STORIES. WE ARE HONORED TO HAVE YOU HERE. WISH YOU ALL THE BEST FOR YOUR JOURNEY AHEAD. MAY YOU BE GUIDED WITH PEACE AND PURPOSE.
